imesAPI, Facilities and Services Division has been awarded the contract “ARTISTIC LIGHTING WORKS FOR THE EXTERIOR OF THE HOLY METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF THE INCARNATION IN THE CITY OF GRANADA”
CONTRACT FRAMED WITHIN THE INTEGRATED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY (EDUSI), GRANADA “FROM TRADITION TO INNOVATION”, CO-FINANCED BY THE EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND (ERDF), WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE MULTI-REGIONAL OPERATIONAL PROGRAM OF SPAIN 2014–2020.
The award to imesAPI of the artistic lighting of this monument, a masterpiece of the Spanish Renaissance, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, represents the recognition of the experience accumulated by the company in the execution and maintenance of ornamental lighting installations for over 40 years.
The awarded artistic lighting project aims to:
- Enhance the heritage value of the Granada Cathedral.
- Improve the energy efficiency of its outdoor ornamental lighting installations, replacing existing luminaires with HPS and metal halide light sources with LED technology luminaires with state-of-the-art control systems.
- Improve those installations that, due to their condition, location or age, are technically and regulatory advisable to upgrade.
- Improve the degree of visual comfort for the end user, the citizen, especially by improving the regulation of lighting levels.
- Limit the impact of exterior lighting on other spaces that are not the subject of this lighting, reducing intrusive light and light pollution.
- Reduce final energy consumption in public infrastructure by more than 90% (20.32 ktoe/year) and estimated annual reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 59.08 Tons of CO2/year.
- Improve the nighttime image of the Granada Cathedral through exterior architectural lighting, highlighting the unique character of the building.
The aim is to generate a new monumental tourist attraction during nighttime hours, offering a different interpretation of the space from that perceived during the day. The nighttime view will generate a second reading of the building, accentuating those architectural parts that may go more unnoticed during the day and that through artificial light can be highlighted and emphasized for their value.
The entire installation will be controlled by the Casambi control system, via Bluetooth, which can be operated through a smartphone, tablet or touch screen device with or without internet connection.
To give dynamism to the new lighting system, Tuneable White luminaires (different white ranges), RGBW, or with dimmable drivers, controllable point by point via the Dali protocol, will be used in combination with the Casambi control system, which operates using innovative Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This easy-to-use system via an APP will allow interaction with the control system for automatic or manual operation, as well as launching the different programmed scenes, making the lighting of the space not have a static image, but rather, throughout the daily operating hours, the lighting of the space changes for the observer’s perception.
